Skating & Smiles

It is safe to say that there were likely many students who slept very well last night!

Today we tied up our skates, snapped up our helmets, and pulled on our mittens! We joined the Grade 2, 3, and 4 classes for a recreational skate at the Ardrossan Rec Complex. What a fantastic afternoon!

Part of our PE curriculum calls for students to demonstrate basic skills in a variety of environments. In our case, we were going to participate in skating (a basic skill) at the arena (an alternative environment). The curriculum also outlines that children require opportunities to demonstrate effort while participating in various activities. Boy, did we see effort from everyone! We had several sweaty little skaters!

After dividing up the ice into areas for skating fast and skating slow, students were encouraged to participate at a level they were comfortable with. Many students in our class are hockey and ringette players, and they were wonderful at encouraging the new skaters in our class. The new skaters were very determined and positive, and all made a marked improvement by the end of our ice time! The afternoon was a tremendous success and an absolute blast!

An enormous THANK YOU to all of the parents who spent the afternoon tying skates, joining us on the ice, and encouraging our budding athletes. The success of our afternoon is because of your support, time, and patience.

We will return to the rink for two more recreational skates in the new year. We can hardly wait!

Celebrating Each Other!

We popped our last balloon and inside it was "Minute To Win It" Games! Competition AND games!?!? Yes, please!

Our first game was "There She Blows". Kids were challenged to blow a cup across the room using a straw! Go kids!!!!!

Next we tackled "Capture The Rainbow"! Students worked together in a relay to separate the jelly beans into colours ... using only one hand! Ahhhhh!

Our next challenge was "Go Fish". Students fanned tissue paper fish across the room into a hula hoop. (Turns out this was Mrs. Beliveau's secret ploy to get cooled off with all that fanning!)

"Cookie Slide" was a hit! We opened our cookies, licked 'em, and stuck 'em to our noggins! Then, using our facial muscles, we wiggled and squidged our faces until the cookie slid into our mouths!

Our faces continued to get stickier for this next game! We smeared a dollop of Vaseline on our noses and a buddy was challenged to throw a cotton ball and make it stick! This one was really hilarious!

"Snack Scramble" had the students building little puzzles from snack boxes. Teamwork all the way!

Once Mrs. Beliveau calmed the competitors, all received amazing awards! Each student was honored for their God-given gifts. Students were thrilled to receive a special word cloud filled with personalised words.

Turns out the fun didn't stop there! We walked to the Ardrossan Rec Complex and spent our afternoon taking part in loads of fun activities on the rink! We enjoyed frisbee golf, scooters, parachute, giant soccer, skipping ropes, checkers, connect four, and SO MUCH MORE!

Our last day together was so much fun! We laughed, played and had a blast!

Boys and girls,

Remember how special you are. God has made you unique and in his image, blessing you with countless gifts. Use these gifts to make the lives of others brighter. Please know that I believe in you and I pray that you make this world a kinder place.

Love and hugs,
Mrs. Beliveau

P.S. Always believe in yourself! I believe in you!

Skates and Smiles

What a wonderful end to our week! Yesterday we spent the afternoon skating at the Ardrossan Rec Complex! Loads of fun!

Our Phys Ed curriculum calls for students to demonstrate basic skills in a variety of environments. We enjoyed skating (a basic skill) at our local rink (an alternative environment). Our curriculum also states that students require opportunities to demonstrate effort while participating in a variety of activities. We saw lots of effort from everyone on the ice!

Here are some highlights from our afternoon:

Many thanks to the parents who helped us tie skates, snap helmets, and encourage the kids! It was so much fun and a fantastic way to get some exercise!

We'll be back at the rink in March! We can hardly wait!

Afternoon At The Rink

It is safe to say that there were likely many students who slept very well on Friday night.

Last Friday, we tied up our skates, snapped up our helmets, and pulled on our mittens! We joined the Grade Two and Three classes for a recreational skate at the spectacular, newly renovated Ardrossan Rec Complex. What a fantastic afternoon!

Part of our physical education curriculum calls for students to demonstrate basic skills in a variety of environments. In our case, we were going to participate in skating (a basic skill) at the arena (an alternative environment). The curriculum also outlines that children require opportunities to demonstrate effort while participating in various activities. Boy, did we see effort from everyone! The new skaters were very determined and positive, and all made a marked improvement by the end of our ice time! The afternoon was a tremendous success and an absolute blast!

Festive Christmas music filled the rink as the students glided round and around. Here are a few highlights from our skating afternoon:

(Unfortunately, my camera decided to start the weekend early and the battery ran out halfway through our skate. Apologies for only capturing some of our athletes.)

An enormous THANK YOU to all of the parents who spent the afternoon tying skates, joining us on the ice, and encouraging our budding athletes. The success of our afternoon is because of your support, time, and patience.

We will return to the rink for two more recreational skates in January and March. We can hardly wait!
