Last day! (sniff...)

We popped our last balloon and inside it was "Minute To Win It" Games! Competition and games!?!? Yes, please!

Our first game was "There She Blows". Kids were challenged to blow a cup across the room using a straw! Mrs. Beliveau sure tried to enjoy some of those breezes in our smokin' hot classroom! Go kids!!!!!

Next we tackled "Capture The Rainbow"! Students worked together in a relay to separate the jelly beans into colours ... using only one hand! Ahhhhh!

Our next challenge was "Go Fish". Students fanned tissue paper fish across the room into a hula hoop. (Turns out this was Mrs. Beliveau's secret ploy to get cooled off with more fanning!)

"Cookie Slide" was a hit! We opened our cookies, licked 'em, and stuck 'em to our noggins! Then, using our facial muscles, we wiggled and squidged our faces until the cookie slid into our mouths!

Our faces continued to get stickier for this next game! We smeared a dollop of Vaseline on our noses and a buddy was challenged to throw a cotton ball and make it stick! This one was really hilarious!

"Snack Scramble" had the students building little puzzles from snack boxes. Teamwork all the way!

The final challenge had us all gasping for breath! We used straws to move mini-marshmallows from one cup to another. Whew!

Turns out the fun didn't stop there! We walked to the Ardrossan Rec Complex and spent our afternoon taking part in loads of fun activities on the rink! We enjoyed frisbee golf, scooters, parachute, giant soccer, skipping ropes, checkers, connect four, and SO MUCH MORE!

Our last day together was so much fun! We laughed, played and had a blast!

Boys and girls, remember how special you are. God has made you unique and has blessed you with countless gifts. Use these gifts to make the lives of others brighter. Please know that I believe in you and I pray that you make this world a kinder place. Remember to stop by for hugs in the Fall!

Love,
Mrs. Beliveau

Lovin' School in June!

Question: How do you get 6 and 7 year-olds running into class each morning ... in June?

Answer: Have a book tournament and a balloon pop countdown!

We have been enjoying another book tournament throughout June and today was the final face off ...

Mr. Marshall was kind enough to read one of the final two books to the Grade 1's and 2's today.

The students voted and the winner was...THE BOOK WITH NO PICTURES! Each time we read it throughout the competition the children howled with laughter! The first time it was read they literally begged to hear it again. They begged! For a book!

B.J. Novak is the author, and he was also
a writer for the TV show The Office
(don't worry, the book is definitely kid-appropriate!)

We have had a hoot counting down the last 15 days of school! Each day we popped a balloon to reveal a fun activity. We have one more balloon to pop tomorrow. Check out all of the fun we have had together on days 15 through to today, our second last day!

Wonder what's in that last balloon?

Yahoo! Celebrate you!

This afternoon was a party! The gym was packed and each and every student was celebrated for their unique God-given gifts. We had so much fun!

We clapped, we sang, we laughed, and we smiled for a gazillion pictures!

Aaaaaaand then we got silly!

Goof balls.

Our Primary Awards Afternoon was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the journey we have shared this year. The boys and girls have worked hard. They have supported one another. They have learned a tremendous amount. Sharing this school year with these children and their families has been an absolute blessing.

In case you missed the fun today, please enjoy enjoy one of the songs we sang, "Alle"!

Father's Day Fun!

The dads, uncles, grandpas, dedos, and brothers in our lives are so important! To show them how much we love and care for them, we began preparing for Father's Day in May!

Joined by special "non-dad" family members, the boys and girls tackled a challenging building project, a bird feeder! Our school turned into HGTV as the children hammered, nailed, sanded and glued!

Aren't our dads (and the birds) lucky?

But a gift isn't complete without a thoughtful card, and the students were certainly thoughtful as they prepared their messages. Each students wrote out 3 special sentences on pink hearts, we took photos, Mrs. Beliveau worked her magic, and voilĂ !

Many blessings on this Father's Day weekend!

Back In Time ...

Today we were blessed to visit the Fort Heritage Precinct for a trip back in time! We experienced what life was like well over 100 years ago in a hands-on, engaging way! This trip was an excellent culmination to our Social Studies unit, which focused on changes from past to present.

Will you join us on a picture tour of our day?

Many thanks to our patient and energetic moms, dads and older sis who joined us for the day! We learned LOADS and could not have had the successful trip we enjoyed without you!

A special thank you to the Fort Heritage Precinct, who ensured our day was jam-packed with well-organized, educational and FUN activities! We hope to be back very soon!

Balloons and Books!

POP!

Each morning, from now until the last day of school, the students will pop one balloon to find a fun activity inside!

Yesterday? Sidewalk chalk!

Today? Lunchtime picnic in the sunshine!

Back by popular demand is another book tournament! The students had SO MUCH FUN with our March Madness Book Tournament a few months ago, that we decided to have another competitive and engaging book tournament again!

Here is the draw. Similar to our previous tournament, we read two books, vote, and the winner advances in the playoffs!

Here is a close up of the books we are enjoying:

The students couldn't have been more excited! Here we are, gathered in the library last week, enjoying read alouds:

Looks like June will be full of books and balloons!

Building with Bricks

Last Friday Bricks 4 Kidz visited our fun little classroom! The program perfectly complimented our Science Unit: Building Things. Check out our learning outcomes:

Here is a super zoomed-in close up of our learning outcomes:

We were thrilled to welcome in Mr. Reed From Bricks 4 Kidz! He used Lego to teach us many unique building concepts, including how to construct a plane and a car ... and they were both motorized!

What a wonderful, fun, engaging, hands-on afternoon!

Thanks, Bricks 4 Kidz! We had a BALL and learned a TONNE!

Amazing Animal Reports!

Now that we have wrapped up our Needs of Living Things Unit in Science, we have spent the last week researching an animal of our own choosing!

Students were tasked with drawing a detailed, labeled drawing of their animal and writing three facts, complete with accompanying illustrations! We used the San Diego Zoo Kids site to gather information, as well as a really neat function through Google, called Read and Write for Google, that actually READ the text to us! Cool, huh?

Although students researched their own individual animal, they worked in teams on the Chromebooks. This partnership allowed them to troubleshoot issues on the computers, gather information from challenging text, and collaborate to write strong sentences.

This was a challenging project, but we rose to the challenge! Students shared a computer with a peer. They gathered information and put it into their own words, wrote complete sentences, and illustrated with detail.

Please watch for your child's report in his or her Kanga this week, along with a little reflection for you to complete and return.

Awesome job, kids!
