Thank You, God!

This week we spent a little extra time exploring how blessed we truly are. Our blessings are abundant and we seized every opportunity we could to thank God! 

We were challenged with a wonderful opportunity to practice perseverance. After a short prayer asking God for patience and grace, the students learned to weave paper strips over, under, over, and under. Fantastic effort! Many also showed off their patterning skills.

A little writing and colouring, and our placemats were ready!

This week we read Apple Pie Tired, a beautiful story about teamwork and generosity. Inspired, we came together as a classroom family and followed step by step directions to make apple tarts. 

What a delight to share a delicious treat together as a classroom family!

We have been blessed beyond measure and it is so important to take time and give thanks. God is indeed SO GOOD!

Then the students (and their teacher) all had the opportunity to practice perseverance and patience! We tackled a challenging Thanksgiving project ... woven place mats!

We began by writing and colouring.

Then the students learned to weave paper strips over, under, over, and under. Many also showed off their patterning skills!

Amazing work! These will, without a doubt, be the center of the Thanksgiving tables this weekend!

On a personal note, I want to share how very thankful I am for each child in my class. Each student is a special blessing and I recognize what a responsibility & gift it is to spend eight hours a day learning alongside your little one. I am also very grateful for the support I receive from our classroom families and am thankful beyond measure for this support each and every day.

Thankful Hearts

We. Love. Thursdays. We really do!

We call this day "Thankful Thursday" and each Thursday since school began we have been journaling about what we are thankful for. Gratitude breeds positivity and it is a wonderful lifelong practice that will help our students see the blessings God has sprinkled into our lives!

One of our Read In Week guests was our very own EICS Catholic School Trustee, Michelle Szott! She shared two WONDERFUL books that got us thinking about gratitude and blessings! With just the mention of the word "thankful", the students' hands were shooting up and ideas were overflowing. They were bursting with thankfulness!

God is SO Good!

What a fantastic week! We have been crazy busy having crazy fun with Thanksgiving activities! Here's the highlight reel from the week . . . 

We began by gathering for a few stories. Both books shared a similar message: say thank you to the important people in your life! We all thought about people in our lives we could thank. 

We explored what it means to be thankful and spent time sharing what we are thankful for. Mrs. Beliveau had planned for a short discussion, but this one carried on and on! The boys and girls wanted to share ALL of the things they are thankful for, and they had loads of ideas. However, one mention of a phys ed. period quickly wrapped up our discussion! Turns out we are thankful for daily phys ed, too!

Throughout the week we have been practicing for our upcoming assembly on Tuesday. We will be leading a Thanksgiving Celebration with the other primary classes. We've prepared two special songs, God is So Good and Give Thanks. If you are able to join us on Tuesday around 2:15, all are welcome and we would appreciate your presence. 

On Wednesday afternoon, we learned the meaning of the words patience and perseverance as we tackled our Thanksgiving art project, woven place mats!

The highlight of our week was, without a doubt, "Make a Difference, Break a Rule" Day! Our school community, yet again, proved to be generous as the food donations piled up!

Thanksgiving Blessings!

Yesterday the we spent some time reflecting on how blessed we are. Before sinking our teeth into our Thanksgiving craftivity, we started with a little discussion about the people and things in our lives that we are thankful for. With just the mention of the word "thankful", the students' hands were shooting up and ideas were overflowing. They were bursting with thankfulness!

The children had so many wonderful ideas to include in their Thanksgiving craftivity! These projects are sure to be the star of the dinner table this weekend! Here is the beginning of the project:

Today we were able to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Our school participated in Make a Difference, Break a Rule day. Students could "pay" to break a rule. To break a rule, students' brought in one food item per rule for the Strathcona Food Bank. Students wore hats, ate and drank in class, and listened to music during work time. Boy, did we collect a HUGE pile of food! Here are some highlights from our fantastic day:
